The Detention Center's SORT unit is a functional organization that provides tactical expertise not normally available to Detention Officers in the resolution of critical incidents.

The SORT unit's mission is to respond to and eliminate any critical or emergency situation that threatens the stability, order or security of the Washington County Detention Center. This team will be on call to respond and deploy, within minutes of notification, to the Detention Center and establish order and security quickly, efficiently and professionally.

The team's mission can be accomplished by selecting, training, equipping and maintaining a team of highly motivated corrections officers and other support staff. Training includes disturbance and riot control tactics and techniques, as well as, facility and cell searches, subject control tactics and techniques, inmate extraction and forced cell movements.
